PhD studentship in forest economics

We are searching for a Doctoral student to join the Department of Forest Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Umeå. The student will engage in the study of sustainable management of forest resources applying economic principles and econometric models. In this context, forest resource management can range from forest owner harvesting decisions, to industry-level behaviors responding to public policies, to the monetarization of forest ecosystem services. The final focus of the Ph.D. program will be determined by the candidate’s and mentor’s common interests. Candidates are encouraged to review research conducted by Dr. Francisco X. Description: The selected Ph.D. candidate will be involved in interdisciplinary efforts at the SLU Department of Forest Economics. The candidate will be responsible for: identifying a research topic that expands the state-of-knowledge integrating economics and forest resource management; developing relevant research questions, developing a theoretical framework and an appropriate research design; applying appropriate econometric tools; writing scientific manuscripts and compile a Ph.D. thesis suitable for examination.
Qualifications: To be eligible to apply for the Ph.D. program, you have to have at least a master’s degree in economics or related field (e.g. agricultural economics, natural resource economics, forest economics, or a strong quantitative interdisciplinary program). Knowledge in natural resource economics, demonstrated capacity to integrate forestry and economics concepts and documented knowledge of econometric or statistical packages are considered an extra merit. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English is required.
Of extra merit is experience writing scientific manuscripts. Advanced knowledge in the use of R, SAS, Stata or other software commonly used in econometric analyses is considered extra merit.
