About the organization

The mission of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program is to provide assistance to State, Tribal and local governments, and certain types of Private Nonprofit organizations so that communities can quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President.

Through the PA Program, FEMA provides supplemental Federal disaster grant assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged, publicly owned facilities and the facilities of certain Private Non-Profit (PNP) organizations. The PA Program also encourages protection of these damaged facilities from future events by providing assistance for hazard mitigation measures during the recovery process.


FEMA reservist position is a 2-year appointment and employment is on an intermittent basis, based on the needs of the Agency to support emergencies and disasters when they occur.
Reservists are deployed to disasters across the US and its territories. The Public Assistance Program is one of FEMA's busiest programs.
Reservists are compensated only when deployed. While in deployed status, they frequently work overtime, on weekends, and on holidays.
In addition to the hourly rate, travel to/from the disaster location is paid for, as well as hotel, rental car, meals, etc.
Reservists may be eligible to participate in the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program.
Site Inspectors conduct assessments of damage done to public property and work with applicants to identify all eligible damages.
Program Delivery Managers serve as the primary point of contract for Applicants, providing customer service and programmatic guidance throughout the grant process.
Operations Support Specialists track PA delivery activities, personnel, training, etc.


Must be willing and able to deploy to a disaster location within 24 hours notice.
Must be willing and able to deploy for extended periods of time at disaster locations which may be less than ideal.
Must have strong customer service skills.
Must have strong computer literacy skills.
Site Inspectors must have a degree in some engineering sector.
Strong customer service skills a plus.
Second language skill a plus.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
