Black Rock Orchard is a family farm located in Carroll County in Maryland on the PA border. Our claim to local fame is an original Mason Dixon mile marker located in the plums. We work hard to offer a wide variety of tree fruit and berries, including raspberries, sour cherries, gooseberries, blueberries, pluots, apricots, peaches plums, pears, gooseberries, currents,and an insane number of apples varieties, including both traditional and modern cultivars.
Black Rock Orchard also has 4 greenhouses we use to grow early and late season specialty heirloom tomatoes and figs.
We are located almost 2 hours north of Washington DC and almost an hour north of Baltimore, Maryland.
All of our fruit is sold at farmers markets in the DC metro area.


Black Rock Orchard has a full time opening for an orchard worker who has interest and experience in crop production. In addition to general fieldwork, the worker would attend at least one market a week in the DC metro area.
Black Rock Orchard is a 100-acre orchard on the MD/PA border. We grow a wide variety of tree fruit, berries, and specialty greenhouse tomatoes. All of our fruit is sold at area farmers markets in the DC metro area. We use IPM practices; our orchard is not organic.
Black Rock Orchard owns 2 farms. We are expanding some of our fruit and greenhouse production. We will prefer an individual with interest or experience in high intensity fruit production and greenhouse technology. Academic background in agriculture is preferred.
This position is appropriate for an individual who is able to work in all areas of orchard work including outside field work, planning, marketing. The workweek is 5 days (42.5 hour) which can include Sat/Sun. The rental housing is subsidized by Black Rock Orchard.
Benefits including sick leave, vacation, and Simple Retirement Plan (after probationary period.)
Rental Housing (private farmhouse) is available on our second farm.

Starting date: April, 2022 preferred.


• Applicants must be in excellent physical condition
• Agricultural college degree in crop production or significant experience in sustainable crop production or outside work experience in a related field.
• Mechanical ability necessary to perform some greenhouse and farm operations.
• Work references
• Good driving record. (3-year history required)
• No tobacco use (in any form) or drug use. Tobacco is toxic to greenhouse crops.

This is a full-time permanent position with opportunity for growth. Black Rock Orchard is a drug free and no tobacco work place.


$45,000 - $47,000. Includes hourly wage $18.25 and overtime over 40 hours. Workweek is 42.5 hours.
