About the organization
NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor, builds partnerships to deepen and expand civic engagement through volunteer and service programs, creating sustainable change for our city’s greatest needs. We unite New Yorkers in service to advance lifelong civic engagement for a more equitable and inclusive city.
NYC Civic Corps, an AmeriCorps program launched in 2009 by NYC Service, recruits and places AmeriCorps members to serve full-time from September 1, 2020 to July 9, 2021 at select nonprofit organizations. NYC Civic Corps members build, develop, and grow stronger volunteer programs in order to better serve or reach more New Yorkers. The NYC Civic Corps program objectives are to: (1) Build organizational capacity for civic and community engagement through addressing pressing volunteer-specific needs and opportunities as identified by nonprofit partners; (2); Provide Civic Corps members with workforce skills and pathways to quality careers with advancement opportunities; and (3) Create opportunities for civic leadership development. NYC Civic Corps members build, develop, and grow stronger volunteer programs by recruiting, managing, and engaging volunteers to address impact areas that are priorities of New York City such as; Disaster Services, Economic Opportunity, Education & Youth Development, Environmental Stewardship, and Public Health. Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States
Have successfully obtained a High School diploma or its equivalent prior to the start of the program
Agree to and pass a criminal background check
Ability to serve full time for the program term (generally M-F 9 AM - 5 PM)
A strong motivation for making a positive difference in New York City
Willingness to learn new skills and improve upon existing ones
Must complete a total of 1,700 hours.
