New Americans VISTA

Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services

About the organization

A unique opportunity to serve our immigrant community and newcomer refugee families during uncertain times. Help make Sacramento their new, welcoming and permanent home.

The New Americans VISTA will support two departments at Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS): Refugee Resettlement Services (RRS) and Immigration Legal Services (ILS). The VISTA will help to develop specialized volunteer roles by writing volunteer position descriptions, assist with volunteer recruitment, orientation, outreach, and develop trainings for volunteers. The VISTA will help to increase community awareness of the services by nurturing our relationships with local schools and parishes, speaking at events and setting up donation drives and/or group volunteer activities. The VISTA would assist with our collaborative efforts among other aligned agencies by attending collaborative meetings and promoting collaboration. The VISTA will also assist with planning and implementation of events, such as naturalization workshops.
