About the organization

North Carolina Campus Compact, located in Elon, NC, is a collaborative network of colleges and universities committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility, partnering with communities for positive change, and strengthening democracy.

As part of our programming portfolio we host AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve in the NC Afterschool Corps and the NC Hunger Corps.

Duties

The Afterschool Corps VISTA will build the capacity of community-based afterschool and expanded learning programs that serve children and youth, while strengthening their connection to local colleges and universities. Afterschool Corps members will work to recruit and train afterschool volunteers, increase funding and resources for these programs, and expand local awareness of the value of afterschool.

Corps members may: Assess community and organizational needs and identify assets • Recruit and train volunteers • Develop systems for volunteer coordination• Create policies and procedures that increase program effectiveness • Develop citizen and student leadership and participation in service • Seek new resources through fund-raising and grant-writing • Facilitate community-based research and co-curricular opportunities that support communities • Implement programmatic outreach, communications, and marketing strategies • Coordinate afterschool awareness and national day of service events• Promote AmeriCorps, VISTA, and national service.

As an Afterschool Corps member you will be part of a service cohort with placement locations across North Carolina. Currently recruiting for placements at: Duke University, NC State University Juntos program, UNC Pembroke, Warren Wilson College, and Triangle Bikeworks.

Qualifications

Afterschool Corps VISTAs have an interest in afterschool and expanded learning programs and a passion for serving alongside community and campus members. Experience with and skills in volunteer recruitment, public speaking, oral and written communications, fundraising and grant writing are preferred.
