National Director of Campaigns
About the organization
The Sierra Club is the most enduring and influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States. We amplify the power of our 3.5+ million members and supporters to defend everyone’s right to a healthy world.
This is a new, senior position that will oversee and manage all of the Sierra Club’s campaigns to address climate disruption, transform the energy economy, protect communities from pollution, ensure access to the outdoors for all and protect our lands, water and wildlife, as well as the analyst team that supports these campaigns with best-in-class data. The role will have a seat on the Program Department Leadership Team, which sets the direction for the 300+ staff department in pursuit of our bold 2030 goals.
Our ideal candidate has a strategic vision for turning some of the most successful campaigns in environmental history into a collective force for tackling the urgent threats to our planet and communities, and has a proven track-record of managing a large and distributed team. We are looking for someone who can be an external spokesperson across our campaign work, a strategic fundraiser, and who has the leadership experience required for managing a team of talented and experienced senior managers. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable managing internal and external opportunities and challenges.
The National Director will foster cooperation and collaboration across the campaign unit and lead that team in building effective relationships with peers in the Program Department, other National Departments, with associated volunteer leaders and with our more than 60 local Chapters. The successful candidate will do all of the above in a way that embodies the Sierra Club’s values and centers equity, inclusion, justice and movement building. This means they must have a strategic vision for how to leverage the clean energy transition to advance justice, equity, and inclusion across all Club campaigns while building long-term power.
