About the organization

Montana Campus Compact advances the public purposes of colleges and universities by deepening their ability to improve community life and to educate students for civic and social responsibility. Our organization is an independent affiliate of Campus Compact, a national coalition of college and university presidents dedicated to promoting civic and community engagement, public service, and service-learning in higher education. Our current membership includes Montana's two-year, four-year, public, private, tribal, and community colleges and universities, as well as a network office located in Missoula, hosted by the University of Montana. MTCC hosts an AmeriCorps program (College Coaches) and an AmeriCorps VISTA program that support its mission and work.

Duties

The member will have a passion for creating educational opportunities for high school students who aim to attend college and be successful in the classroom in Missoula and on the Blackfeet Nation at Browning High School. The member will be persistent and patient in recruiting and academic mentoring high school students. Every day will be a little different, but part of your responsibilities will include recruiting and mentoring students, assisting in planning college trips, summer excursions, and community service, and helping with administrative tasks such as mailing information out to students, distributing flyers in the high schools we serve, and creating social media posts. The member will help facilitate summer academic programs and assist in the classroom where needed during the summer academy, in addition to planning academic programming. Qualifications

The University of Montana, TRIO-Upward Bound is funded by the US Department of Education to provide the requisite academic skills and motivation that qualifying students will need for success in post-secondary education. Our goal is to help low-income and first-generation students in Missoula and Browning get to college and be successful! As an AmeriCorps College Coach, you will have a passion for creating educational opportunities for high school students who aim to attend college and be successful in the classroom.
