Acton Academy of Washington, DC is a new Montessori preschool and learner-driven elementary school that guides each child on a journey to discover a calling and change the world.

We are located in a fully renovated, historic row house on K Street in Foggy Bottom, Washington, DC, within walking distance of many historic and cultural sites in the heart of the nation’s capital. We offer an authentic Montessori primary program (ages 3-6) and an innovative Montessori-based elementary program (grades 1 to 6). Acton is an all-day program (8am-6pm) with an optional five-week summer session for those families who need an extended year option.

Acton Academy of Washington, DC ( is seeking a full-time Montessori primary guide to become an integral part of our dynamic team of Montessorians, entrepreneurs, and innovators working together to create a joyful learning environment for children.

This could be the perfect position for you if you recently finished Montessori training or your first year(s) of guiding and are ready for a more entrepreneurial opportunity.

Position Description

In collaboration with the Montessori primary guide team, you will help run an all-day primary classroom in a historic, home-like setting. You will guide approximately 20 children, delivering an exceptional all-day program that supports the individual needs of the children in accordance with Maria Montessori's philosophy and vision. Consistent with that vision, you will observe, track, and evaluate individual children’s progress; give lessons; help maintain the Montessori environment; guide children during outdoor play, lunch, and other activities (such as arts and crafts, baking, etc.).


We are looking for someone with a deep curiosity about life, a lifelong love of learning, and an entrepreneurial spirit (must thrive in a startup environment). She/he will be responsible for facilitating a nurturing and joyful studio culture. We seek someone who has:

AMI, AMS, or MACTE Montessori diploma for primary-aged children.

Experience working with children (ages 3-6 preferred), even if this experience was prior to receiving Montessori training.

A passion for the Montessori philosophy and the discipline to embody Montessori values at all times.

An entrepreneurial mindset and desire to work hard, solve problems, and improve on everything she/he does.

A deep love and respect for all children and empathy for the challenges children face in their lives.

A commitment to practicing gentle, compassionate limit setting.

A strong teamwork ethic, a genuine desire to collaborate with colleagues, and a commitment to professionalism.

A willingness to be coached and mentored.

A willingness to work in an 11-month program (with time off for holidays; winter, spring, and summer breaks; etc.).
