About the organization

The Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Noel Wien Library seeks to provide pro-literacy programming that alleviates poverty by providing quality educational, employment, and social service opportunities to low-income community members of all ages.

Duties

The VISTA member will help alleviate poverty by researching, planning and conducting outreach to enhance usability and access of the libraries by the underserved. Building on data gathered by the Year 1 and 2 VISTAs, the VISTA serving in Year 3 will work with the library staff and community to further build bridges to access. This person will continue to create and maintain a community map to assist the library in forming relationships and partnerships with community organizations to work together on literacy promotion and poverty alleviation. This position will also research and establish sources of funding for programming and work to strengthen and further partnerships thereby increasing the library’s ability to reach those in need. Plan and develop new programming related to literacy, job attainment, education enhancement, and early child development.

Qualifications

Education: some college

Minimum age: 21

Ability to integrate into the Fairbanks community and excitement to fight poverty through local nonprofit work!

Salary

$1,333/month
