About the organization

The West Virginia Community Development Hub supports West Virginians with the tools and training they need to lead and spark positive change in their hometowns and across our state.

In 2009, The Hub was founded by a small group of passionate, committed community development leaders who saw an opportunity to establish a new, innovative approach to catalyze community growth and transformational change in rural areas of West Virginia. Their goal was to create an organization that would serve as a technical assistance provider, a coach for communities, and a team to connect the network of resources available across the state to serve West Virginia communities.

The Hub’s purpose is to coach volunteer community leadership teams to help them build sustained development in rural communities; and grow the overall community economic development system in West Virginia through collaborative partnerships that use innovative approaches to address systemic challenges for rural development.

Duties

Kickstart Communities is a platform that serves as a central hub of resources relating to community development that has been made accessible to anyone interested in learning more or growing their skills as a community leader and community development practitioner for free. Additionally, The Hub's Community Coaches Fellowship program, which offers a variety of levels of training to build a deeper bench of Community Development Coaches in the state, is now a part of Kickstart Communities. This is work that is critical to the long-term growth and development of the full community development system in West Virginia. Kickstart Communities will empower communities to kickstart their own development from a variety of angles!

The VISTA serving in this role will assist the Kickstart Communities program by helping create leadership development curriculum, developing promotional materials in collaboration with our communications team, helping develop a recruitment plan, assisting with recruitment, and building organizational systems to ensure the long-term success of the program

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for rural community and economic development. Additional experience in creating curriculum, leadership development, teaching, community organization and/or general communications is preferred.
