About the organization

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a 501(c)3 grantmaking foundation that receives an annual Congressional appropriation in excess of $310 million and is governed by a private, bipartisan Board of Directors. This unusual arrangement positions NED to play a unique role as America’s leading foundation for freedom, empowering the institution to be nimble, innovative, and risk-taking in support of democratic activists, civil society organizations, independent media, and the NED family core institutes (the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute, the Center for International Private Enterprise, and the Solidarity Center).

We seek a motivated, energetic, organized, and resourceful Intern, World Movement for Democracy who is a mission-oriented team player, and who would be excited to join a fast-paced World Movement for Democracy team. This position is based in Washington, D.C.

Duties

The World Movement for Democracy (WMD), is currently seeking a paid Intern for Spring 2024. The position is open to students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate-level program in a related field.

The team seeks an individual with strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills who has a strong interest in democracy work internationally. Energetic, flexible team players who take initiative and who have knowledge of a foreign language (Arabic, French, Russian, or Spanish preferred) and overseas experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

Conduct research to track democracy-advancement efforts.
Assist in updating the World Movement Web site and social media channels, conduct research for the World Movement’s newsletter and draft alerts for activists facing danger.
Support ongoing work on projects, such as the Civic Space Initiative and #SetThemFree campaign, as well as event logistics.
Attend lectures and roundtable discussions on democracy.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Candidate must be a registered student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate-level program.
Qualified candidates should have excellent writing skills, strong analytical skills, maintain a strong work ethic and have sharp attention to detail.
Students must also have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
Familiarity with social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr) and other programs (Photoshop, InDesign, Final Cut Pro) are a plus.

Time Commitment: 30-34 hrs./week (not to exceed 40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship.
