Duties

The Global Health Technical Specialist provides organizational and technical support to GSSHealth international public health projects and expertise in laboratory diagnostics and disease surveillance/monitoring. The Technical Specialist works with clients, partners, and project managers to implement technical project activities, primarily in Francophone West Africa. Activities will focus on enhancing laboratory capacity, strengthening disease detection and surveillance, and advancing public health response systems for priority pathogens.

Responsibilities:
•Conduct and facilitate remote or on-site health system and laboratory assessments and gap analyses
•Coordinate and facilitate French/English technical meetings
•Lead/co-lead virtual or on-site workshops on technical laboratory subjects and quality assurance
•Develop training materials and standard operating procedures
•Advise on quality and procurement considerations for diagnostic products and laboratory consumables
•Contribute to the development of technical reports and presentations
•Support partners to develop and participate in external quality assessment (EQA) programs
•Support laboratories to assure the uptake, installation, maintenance, and operation of equipment
•Potential for up to 50% international travel in the future

Qualifications

Education:
•Bachelor's degree with a major or minor in a relevant field
•Professional education in the French language, or native fluency, highly desired
•Master’s degree or higher in public health, biology, or a related field preferred, but not required

Experience:
•3+ years clinical laboratory experience required
•Working professional proficiency in French highly preferred
•Experience in resource-limited settings desirable, but not required

Knowledge and Skills:
•Experience in laboratory disciplines (microbiology or molecular biology preferred)
•Proficiency in French highly preferred
•Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control standards and activities
•Understanding of the requirements for Biosafety levels 2 and 3
•Ability to work independently with limited supervision
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
