This position is at the Mesa Falls Recreation Area in the Ashton/Island Park Ranger District of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. We are located in Eastern Idaho between Ashton and West Yellowstone Mt. The Visitor Center at Upper Mesa Falls is 60 miles from Yellowstone Park. The duty station is Ashton, Idaho. Ashton is a small town of about 1,000 residents in southeast Idaho. The nearest larger include St. Anthony, 3,500 residents (15 miles), Rexburg, 25,000 residents, (30 miles) and Idaho Falls, 60,000 residents (50 miles). Government housing is available. Two housing options include Porcupine Guard Station (14 miles from Ashton) and Island Park Ranger Station (25 miles from Ashton), making personal transportation necessary. There are no housing for couples nor are pets of any kind are allowed.
This position will work at the Mesa Falls Recreation Area. Duties at Upper Mesa Falls include fee collection, , interpretive work with visitors and school groups, recreation site maintenance; including picking up litter, cleaning bathrooms, and maintaining kiosks. The position will start in mid-May and end in late September. Work on weekends will be required. Employees will interact with visitors and respond to a variety of inquiries regarding Forest Service activities, programs, exhibits, facilities, policies and functions. Staffing the front desk, creating and arranging exhibits, and working in conservation education will be part of the duties. This position will start in mid to late May and end in late September. Work on weekends will be required.
U.S. Citizenship, associates degree or two years successfully completed education above high school.
GS-3 wages are $13.32/hour with the deduction for housing running $5.15/day
