The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the oldest federal conservation agency, tracing its lineage back to 1871, and the only agency in the federal government whose primary responsibility is management of fish and wildlife for the American public.
The Service helps ensure a healthy environment for people by providing opportunities for Americans to enjoy the outdoors and our shared natural heritage. We manage the National Wildlife Refuge System, a diverse network of lands and waters dedicated to conserving America’s rich fish and wildlife heritage. Under the Fisheries program we also operate over 70 National Fish Hatcheries and 65 fishery resource offices. The Ecological Services program has 86 field stations across all 50 states. The Service employs approximately 9,000 people across the US.
These positions are located in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Joint Administrative Operations (JAO), Payments and Collections Section. The employee performs a variety of routine technical and recurring financial management tasks that are structured to increase the employee's competence in the application of financial management and accounting principles, procedures, and techniques. Encourages and displays an entrepreneurial spirit in addressing problems and improving performance.
GS-7 duties typically include the following:
• Examining financial documents for proper accounting classification and authorization.
• Performing reconciliations.
• Analyzing a variety of accounts.
• Entering and processing data into various accounts and the general ledger.
• Adjusting differences between the general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
• Closing entries.
• Preparing monthly trial balances and financial reports.
• Analyzing financial and statistical data from a variety of sources.
Completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a field of study that demonstrates the competencies required by this position with either (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale; (2) a 3.5 GPA based on a 4.0 scale for all required courses completed in a qualifying major field of study at either the time of application or during the last two years of your undergraduate curriculum; (3) class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or a major subdivision of the college; or, (4) membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College Honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies; OR
B. One full year of graduate level education in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following related fields;
C. One year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level (comparable to GS-05) in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: perform reconciliations of various financial statements; review and analyze a variety of technical financial accounts; prepare monthly trial balance statements; and enter and process data in various accounts in a general ledger;
