Duties

The Client Empowerment Corps is a statewide program powered by AmeriCorps VISTA, made up of a creative and motivated team focused on alleviating the upstream, economic causes of hunger as well as the downstream effects of hunger on health. VISTAs in the program build non-traditional partnerships to increase client access to new services, and strategically incorporate the voices of hungry Texans into the public conversation on hunger through StoryBankTexas.org and client feedback loop projects. With ample coaching and personal development opportunities, our corps offers emerging non-profit professionals a way to gain a level of experience above other entry-level positions. Collaborate with other VISTAs and non-profit professionals in a variety of positions, while building a foundation for a meaningful career.

The VISTA Leader serves for a year alongside a Co-Leader and a VISTA Program Manager to support up to 16 VISTA members in place in food banks across the state. They provide recruitment, training, and personal support to members with ample opportunity to practice mentoring and coaching skills. VISTA Leaders develop a stronger understanding of grant and program management, program monitoring and evaluation, food security and food banking, partnership building and relationship maintenance, professional communications, and the dynamics of building and managing a team. This position is a great bridge from more direct work to supervisory and administrative roles.
