About the organization

The BLM manages 245 million surface acres. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. We are a small bureau with a big and complex job, determining the best combination of uses for public lands based on good science and input from the public both in local communities and across the country. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Duties

This position serves as a secretary and principle administrative support in the Nevada State Office of the Bureau of Land Management, and is responsible for developing, implementing, and recommending internal office administrative, information management, and clerical procedures and guidelines, modifying and/or adapting guidelines to address specific problems, and coordinating the work of the office with other offices to ensure work is in compliance with that of higher level offices and organizations.

Responds to inquiries and administrative problems by staff members, internal officials, private and public organizations and external agencies and bureaus.

Qualifications

For the GS-08: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: responding to inquiries and administrative problems; setting appointments for managers; drafting correspondence; assist with logistics for meetings and making travel arrangement.

For the GS-09: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: performing executive personal assistant/secretarial duties for high level leadership or management; acting as an office manager; responding to inquiries and administrative problems that requires dealing with high level staff and officials; exercising control of manager’s appointments, with authority for commitments of time; reviewing correspondence, creating correspondence in final form, routing matters and following up to ensure actions are completed; proficient at coordinating logistics for large meetings and making complicated travel arrangements.

This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element.

This position requires a qualified typist, able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

Salary

$47,899 to $68,777 per year
