The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is a Federal government agency tasked with the responsibility to protect human health and the environment. The position is located in EPA’s Office of Wastewater Management, WaterSense Branch.

The WaterSense program is a voluntary public-private initiative that seeks to increase availability and adoption of high-performing, water-efficient products services, and practices in the marketplace. Learn more at www.epa.gov/watersense.

Duties

WaterSense is seeking qualified candidates to perform assignments related to increasing water use efficiency in the U.S. Assignments will include science and/or engineering related and public engagement work required for the development and conduct of EPA programs and accomplishment of its mission, specifically to support WaterSense efforts to manage outdoor water use.

The primary work will be to (a) communicate and market the outdoor water use elements of the program to increase awareness of the WaterSense brand and labeled products, practices, and services; (b) engage with professional organizations to support their water efficiency and professional certification efforts; and (c) understand and communicate other opportunities to improve water efficiency in the residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors.

Incumbents may research products, practices, and services to determine if they are appropriate for labeling through the program, communicate technical information about water efficiency and products, and work to develop criteria, test methods, and conformance procedures for products and services.

Incumbents will maintain effective working relationships and work with senior communication staff in providing technical assistance, coordinate on EPA program or project matters with various stakeholders, represent the Agency on inter-and intra- agency committees, conducting workshops, and other matters.

Qualifications

We are only seeking candidates with active NCE eligibility at this time. This is a GS-9/11 level position with a full performance level up to GS-13.

In addition to demonstrating training and/or experience in the area for which you are applying, your application should also demonstrate competency in the following areas:

• Knowledge of environmental issues, such as water management and sustainability
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to communicate orally
• Ability to communicate in writing
• Ability to translate technical water environmental information into messages that end users can use to make decisions
• Background in environmental work that touches on outdoor water use, such as landscape design, horticulture, irrigation, water management and/or sustainability is preferred.

Depending on background, you may also perform work in either a program area (e.g, WaterSense new homes, commercial facilities), a functional area (e.g., plumbing, irrigation, building systems), or a cross-media effort (e.g., sustainability, energy efficiency, green building, climate resiliency). Because you will also work with program partners to help implement consumer campaigns, experience/knowledge of outreach and marketing and skills in communicating both orally and in writing is a plus.
