About the organization
The Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED) is a 43-year-old multi-strategy economic development organization that seeks to transition Eastern Kentucky’s economy into a just and sustainable post-coal future. We work with people and places in Central Appalachia and Kentucky to build a strong and diverse economy, increased family well-being, healthy and protected land, air and water, and an effective and accountable democracy.
MACED is a fast-paced, dynamic and growing organization with a 32-person staff that manages over $33 million in total assets. MACED seeks to make meaningful progress towards a Just Appalachian Transition through the following core strategies: 1) investing capital in local enterprises and communities, 2) demonstrating local-sector development ideas, 3) engaging in research, communications and advocacy for policy and narrative change, and 4) building entrepreneurial and leadership capacity.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:
Working with MACED staff to coordinate an annual client survey, including:
Assisting with re-designing ED’s approach to gathering client feedback.
Updating survey documents and tracking tools.
Refining client data.
Distributing surveys to clients.
Collecting completed surveys and updated financial information from clients.
Following up by phone or in person to obtain outstanding survey information (travel, including overnight travel may be required).
Tracking distribution and collection of the surveys.
Compiling data collected with the survey.
Assisting with evaluating the implications of the information gathered.
Summarizing and presenting the key survey findings.
Assisting with other projects in accordance with MACED’s mission and values.
Practice safety in all aspects of the job.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge and experience: College graduate, student seeking bachelor’s degree in business or related area, or individual with commensurate business experience; strong project organization & follow up skills.
Personal characteristics: Highly self-motivated; well-organized; attentive to detail and able to multi-task.
Technology and software: Working competence with MS Excel and Word software programs. Experience with Survey Monkey is helpful, but not required.
Communications: Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with numerous Appalachian based entrepreneurs; strong writing skills; strong interpersonal communication skills.
Physical: Close vision with or without corrective lenses necessary for computer work; manual dexterity needed to operate computer; ability to perform assigned duties in a time-efficient manner; a valid driver’s license and ability to drive. Either insurability on MACED’s group vehicle policy or access to a reliable vehicle for regular trips.

This is a paid, 10 week, 40 hour per week internship. Hourly rate will be based on experience. Some benefits will apply. The internship is based in Berea, Kentucky. Berea is a beautiful, small college town, less than an hour south of Lexington, on the edge of the Appalachian region. MACED is an equal opportunity employer.
