About the organization

The Payne Fellowship encourages the application of individuals from historically underrepresented groups in the Foreign Service as well as those with financial need. The fellowship is a pathway for US citizens interested in International Development and Relations to work in the USAID Foreign Service. Applicants must be under the age of 58 planning to attend a US institution for a two-year graduate program. Applicants must apply for the fellowship the year before they commence graduate school; therefore, the application cycle for people starting graduate school in Fall 2024 is now open. Duties

Payne Fellows must maintain a 3.2 GPA or higher during their graduate program and complete various tasks assigned by the program staff and USAID. Fellows will be assigned to two summer positions, one in a congressional office (the summer before the first year of graduate school) and an overseas assignment at a USAID post (the summer between the first and second year of graduate school).

Qualifications

Applicants must be planning to attend a US institution for a two-year graduate program within the next year.

Salary

$104,000 over two years.
