Big Bend National Park is one of the largest and most diverse national parks in the United States, encompassing over 801,000 acres of Chihuahuan Desert and mountains with varied scenery and diversity of plant and animal life. It is situated in remote southwest Texas along the Rio Grande which is the international boundary between the United States and Mexico. Big Bend is the only National park to contain an entire mountain range within its borders. The park community consists of approx. 250 people, including employees and their families. The park has a post office, gas stations, camper stores, restaurant, and lodge. Recreational opportunities include hiking, bird watching, photography, backcountry camping, bicycling, and river rafting. Elevation at Panther Junction is 3,800 feet. The incumbent supervises an all hazard dispatch operation with four dispatchers. The Big Bend Dispatch Center provides services and coordinates response to law enforcement, EMS, search and rescue, and fire within Big Bend National Park seven days a week in a remote setting.
Experience in a communication center or dispatching operation.
Familiarity with working in/around an all-hazard response framework, and ability to manage responses to multiple incidents at the same time.
