Duties

Make a positive impact in the lives of Texans with disabilities and older Texans! Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (TXHHSC) Office of Disability Services Coordination (ODSC) office in Austin. As a Disability Services VISTA Member, you will be a part of a team of innovative professionals who work to enhance and coordinate disability services and programs throughout TXHHSC. The selected Member will assist with implementing statewide projects, building resources and connection points, and creating awareness campaigns that works towards long-term, systemic improvement of service delivery and communication for people with disabilities. Member projects fall under two system-level initiatives – Disability Services Action Plan and the Direct Service Workforce Development Taskforce. The selected Member will gain experience in disability services, aging services, public health, partnership building, research, and will have the opportunity to gain professional experience while working in a state government setting.

The Disability Services VISTA Member will support the initiatives, projects, and campaigns of the Office of Disability Services Coordination. Responsibilities include: • Researching, presenting, and creating innovative strategies to recruit and train formal caregivers; and • Creating outreach materials, resources, and campaigns to increase awareness of programs and services.

Qualifications

Interest in working in a state government setting and with programs that serve older adults.
