Who We Are: Founded 50 years ago, Parkmont School is a small, independent school for grades 6-12 serving the needs of 65 students. Parkmont emphasizes hands-on learning and provides a radically different academic structure that relies on internships, field trips, and other real-world learning opportunities. A number of our students come to us with learning and other challenges, and as a group we are among the most socio-economically and racially diverse communities in DC. We’re passionate about making a difference in our students' lives.


What You Will Do: We are looking for a Director of Communications to initially continue the work we’ve done successfully for the past 15 years. This is a half- to full-time position depending on experience.

Tasks include:
- Creating and distributing print and online marketing materials (including annual reports, newsletters, holiday cards, and brochures) through targeted mail and email campaigns. (Constant Contact)
- Creating and posting strategic stories to the school’s social media platforms. (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter)
- Monitoring and improving the school’s web presence, including online listings and reviews.
- Cultivating a consistent and organized approach to alumni outreach.
- Managing fundraising efforts, including the Annual Giving Campaign and three annual private foundation applications.
- Finding and applying for supplemental funding opportunities, including applicable governmental grants.
- Leading the annual Poetry Festival solicitation, including three mail and/or digital asks.
-Planning and executing school and community events, including the annual Parkmont Poetry Festival.

Beyond replicating our current communications and development strategy, there will be opportunities to be creative and shape future initiatives in the next generation of our work.


What You Need:
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Previous experience highly valued, but not a prerequisite.
- Outstanding oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; comfortable working with numbers, interpreting financial data, creating budgets.
- Strong aptitude for technology. High proficiency with Google Workspace products (Sheets, Docs), databases, social media/web-based applications, and website analytics.
- Attends to other leadership responsibilities as assigned.
