The Clean Air Markets Division (CAMD) is seeking Data Scientist interested in working implementing and managing air programs, such as the Acid Rain Program (ARP) and Cross-State Air Pollution Rule (CSAPR), and working on its related environmental data through data analysis and developing applications to communicate with the public.

CAMD is responsible for a variety of programmatic and analytical activities related to the environment and energy sector use emissions. As part of these programs, air data such as emissions from power plants is used for analyses to support new rulemakings and assess program performance and to tell stories about environmental change.

We are looking for an individual with an interest and aptitude for understanding and developing policy, implementing and managing air programs, developing IT applications, and performing analyses.

Interested candidates should be enthusiastic, organized self-starters with education and/or experience in:
• Assist in the development of technical policy analyses, tools and documents that support regulatory development, reporting and implementation of regulations developed by CAMD and implementing its regulations;
• Assist in developing tools for analyzing data that facilitate the design of new programs and implementation and assessment of existing programs;
• Working with data for statistical analysis.


You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following options:

(1)behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major as listed; OR Four years of experience that demonstrate you have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major as listed.
(2)OR physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
(3) OR a professional engineering degree.

In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown below:

1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement and/ or 1 year equivalent to at least GS-5.
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree and/or 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7

This is a career-ladder position being hired at the GS-7 or GS-9 level, commensurate with experience. The full promotion potential of this position is GS-13.
