About the organization

Social Security provides financial protection for our nation’s people, supporting Americans throughout all of life’s journeys.

We administer retirement, disability, survivor, and family benefits, and enroll individuals in Medicare. We also provide Social Security Numbers, which are unique identifiers needed to work, handle financial transactions, and determine eligibility for certain government services.

Duties

Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) work directly with the public to deliver Social Security benefits and services.
CSRs work in a hybrid work environement in our local office and from home providing services to our customers and gathering facts and evidence to determine if someone is eligible for benefits.

CSRs help the public by answering a wide variety of questions both in-person and by telephone.
Conduct interviews, investigate situations, and resolve issues.
Review information to determine ongoing eligibility for Social Security benefits.
Analyze a claimant's benefit payment history.

Qualifications

Experience providing customer service to customers from diverse backgrounds and various social economic backgrounds.

College degree preferred

Experience researching, interpreting, and applying policy.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Superb interpersonal skills and organization skills.

GS-5 TO GS-7
