The Social Security Administration is one of the largest independent agencies in government with over 60,000 employees. We work at more than 1,400 field offices and service centers throughout the country, as well as regional and headquarters locations. Social Security jobs offer the opportunity to provide a service to the public, people already receiving Social Security benefits and people seeking benefits for the first time. We manage three different benefit programs: Retirement and Survivors Insurance, Disability Insurance and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. Social Security also works closely with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to provide assistance with the cost of health care premiums to members of the public who are age 65 or older and individuals with disabilities. Duties

A Customer Service Representative provides both in-person and telephone assistance to the public on a wide variety of subjects. Customer Service Representative's assist the public by answering questions, conducting interviews, investigating situations, and resolving issues. These employees make determinations that affect a claimant's ongoing eligibility for Social Security benefits. Details oriented individuals with strong communication skills enjoy the Customer Service Representative position.

As a Claims Specialist, you will assist the public in person or by telephone to establish entitlement to Social Security benefits. Your contacts will allow you to obtain, clarity and verity data used to analyze claims evidence and make benefit entitlement decisions. Your career as a Claims Specialist will allow you to develop skills that provide a solid foundation for future advancements.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen by birth or Naturalization, have excellent communication skills & ability to deal with the public, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a degree or related experience. For more information, visit http://www.ssa.gov/careers/.
