The Social Security Administration is one of the largest independent agencies in government with over 60,000 employees. We work at more than 1,400 field offices and service centers throughout the country, as well as regional and headquarters locations.

The majority of positions at Social Security involve working directly with the public, with multiple positions located throughout the country. Our Public Contact Representatives receive extensive training and mentoring in Social Security programs and state laws. They also speak with beneficiaries about their rights under Social Security laws, gather facts and evidence to establish eligibility for benefits, determine benefit amounts to individuals, and use technology to access and update claims information.

Duties

Customer Service Representatives assist the public by answering a wide variety of questions, conducting interviews, investigating situations, and resolving issues. The employees make determinations that affect a claimant’s ongoing eligibility for Social Security benefits and analyze claimant’s benefit payment histories.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen by birth or Naturalization, have excellent communication skills & ability to deal with the public, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a degree or related experience.

Salary

Varied; Starting $38,723
