Student Conservation Association

About the organization

SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land.

Our Impact
It happens every day, all over our great country. A 19-year-old in Louisville. A 20-year-old in Des Moines. A 16-year-old in Nome. Every day our youth want to do something important with their lives, and begin to ask, “Who am I?” and “Who do I want to become?” At the same time, every day our parks and natural resources fall into disrepair and are depleted.
Today we stand at a critical point in time where the desire to do something can be met with the need to preserve and protect our environment. SCA is there. Every day SCA unites young people with hands-on environment.

Duties

Join an SCA young adult crew that will be working in two National Parks within the Nations Capital. This crew will be working in Rock Creek Park (the largest park in Washington, DC) and along the southernmost section of the C&O Canal towpath. The crews will be comprised of 3 young adult members (18 years of age or older) and 1 crew leader. The crew will be working in partnership with National Park Service staff to complete necessary projects. The main focus of the team will be to install wayfinding signage for visitor use. The crew will work to improve the visitor experience by installing updated trail signage and ensuring trails are well marked.

As long as Covid-19 is a threat, members are expected to do their part to keep their team safe, this includes being mindful of current regulations, regular cleaning and disinfection of tools/equipment, regular health check-ins with staff, and following policy and procedures outlined in SCA’s COVID management plan.
