Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps with Iowa Economic Development Authority

About the organization

The Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps Program is hosted by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and has been an active part of COVID-19 response and recovery in Iowa since May of 2020. Since the beginning of the program more than 130 AmeriCorps members have served organizations across the state of Iowa addressing food security, independent living, learning enrichment, volunteer management, health care access and economic support programs.

Duties

AmeriCorps service with the COVID-19 Recovery program could include a wide variety of activities. Food security partners utilize members to prepare, receive, sort, package and distribute food and goods through large food banks and local food pantries. Food security positions may also be in community and organization gardens to grow produce for distribution at food pantries. Economic relief service activities include making referrals and processing applications for rent and utility assistance and to provide wrap-around services to clients. Members who focus on volunteer management might organize activities such as confirming and scheduling volunteers to fill and deliver orders or aid in volunteer recruitment and training efforts.

Qualifications

AmeriCorps members must be 18 years or older; have HS diploma/GED or are working towards the equivalent; must hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien; and agree to and pass a 3 part criminal history check. Individual host sites may include additional qualifications
