Five One Labs is a startup incubator and entrepreneurship ecosystem builder headquartered in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) that supports diverse entrepreneurs in launching scalable, innovative businesses. Since launching in Iraq in 2017, we have been at the forefront of the country’s rapidly growing entrepreneurial ecosystem and have supported displaced as well as local entrepreneurs to launch impressive, innovative startups.


The successful candidate will support Five One Labs to:

STRATEGIZE: Develop our country short- and long-term strategy in partnership with Five One Labs leadership

MANAGE: Manage the day-to-day operations, high-level financials, legal and regulatory situation, program implementation, and our team across Erbil and Sulaimani. No big deal.

INNOVATE: Work with leadership and managers to develop ideas for new programs, events, outreach strategies and fundraising tactics

LEAD: Be a responsible and inspiring leader for our team and community in Iraq, and an active member of Five One Labs’ leadership team

REPRESENT: Represent Five One Labs in front of donors, partners and entrepreneurs and oversee donor collaboration and communication, including proposal writing and financial and narrative reporting to donors

STRENGTHEN: Strengthen our strategies and policies to make sure our work is done to the highest quality, our team across the country is supported and secure, and our entrepreneurs are able to succeed

The Iraq Country Director will work closely with the co-founders of the organization along with the city teams (currently in Erbil and Sulaimani).

While this position is based in Erbil, Iraq, the Country Director will be expected to travel frequently to Sulaimani and other operational locations.


The Five One Labs team is seeking candidates with the following profile:

Graduate degree in business, international affairs or relevant subject preferred; bachelor’s degree plus previous experience in entrepreneurship may substitute;
Strong interest in and passion for entrepreneurship; experience working or living in the Middle East is a plus
At least eight years managing complex operations and teams;
Experience managing project budgets of at least $500,000 or greater;
Financial management experience, particularly with donor-managed projects.
Empathetic and inclusive leadership style; demonstrated experience building and leading diverse and multicultural teams;
Fluency in English; Arabic and Kurdish highly recommended

Problem-solving and “can-do” attitude
Strong commitment to mission and impact: passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation;
Willingness to work in ambiguous and challenging environments;
Openness to giving and receiving candid feedback
Collaborative work ethic; team-oriented and enthusiastic about working with and supporting others;
Attention to detail, conscientious about accuracy and professional presentation at all times; desire for continuous improvement.
