Calaveras County is a general law county, with 18 departments (appointed and elected) and employs approximately 550 full-time people, 130 extra-hires and over 400 volunteers to serve its diverse population. The annual budget is $155 million and is governed by a five member Board of Supervisors, whose members are elected to serve four-year terms. The Board serves as the legislative body for Calaveras County and provides policy direction for all branches of County Government. With a population of over 48,000 residents Calaveras County encompasses 1,000 square miles stretching from the north central valley to the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are no freeways or interstates in Calaveras County. The County of Calaveras was created in 1850 as one of California’s original counties. The historic gold-rush towns in Calaveras County offer a glimpse into California’s diverse past and provide modern day residents and visitors with recreational activities year round.
The County of Calaveras Public Health Division of the Health and Human Services Agency is seeking a Community Health Assistant I/II/III to join their amazing team and make a difference in the lives of Calaveras County residents! This exciting opportunity provides information, education and outreach to various populations in Calaveras County to improve their health and well- being. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing relationships with community partners and develop new resources within the community.
The incumbent will, under general supervision, provide a variety of support services to public health staff and clientele; perform related work as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Participates and assists in planning, organizing and conducting meetings, workshops and seminars to promote health awareness and health programs.
• Assists various public health professionals in providing services in the area of community health.
• Assists in identifying potential clients within the community who may benefit from services provided.
• Makes referrals as appropriate, prepares and delivers verbal presentations, assists in recruitment, training and monitoring of program providers.
• Assists in preparing informational programs and materials with the various news media.
• Prepares and maintains records and reports as required.
Basic principles and practices of health education; methods of preparing and disseminating public health education materials; organization and methods of utilizing the media, community organization and resources; principles and practices of data gathering, analysis and presentations; basic health problems and needs of the community.
Assist in preparation and implementation of health educational programs and services; ability to express self effectively orally; ability to make public presentations; can express self effectively in writing; develop and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff and a wide variety of community organizations and the general public.
Education, Training and Experience:
Community Health Assistant I
High School Diploma or GED.
Community Health Assistant II
High School Diploma plus 1 yr. experience as Community Health Assistant I or equivalent, or; A.A. Degree.
Community Health Assistant III
B.S. degree, or; A.A. Degree & 1 yr. experience as Community Health Assistant II or equivalent.
Licenses, Certificates, or Registrations:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license at time of appointment.
