The Eastern Maine Community College Cooperative (EMC3C) in Bangor, ME is seeking an ambitious individual to grow our campus food pantry and create a community garden on campus. This individual will work with community and campus partners to increase resources and services for students related to food insecurity and poverty. There will be ample opportunities to work with students, staff, faculty, and the community. The VISTA will work closely with EMCC’s Student Success team and be welcomed as part of our family.
Recruit students to staff EM3C & conduct outreach to students/staff about food insecurity and provide them resources to combat hunger. To build capacity, EM3C must build partnerships with other area businesses/agencies to increase/diversify the resources we can provide students. This includes culturally appropriate food to meet the needs of EMCC’s increasing international population. Also, the VISTA will write grants to procure additional resources. Increase efficiencies/communications regarding curbside pickup, walk-in service, & food deliveries is also critical. This includes revamping the way students place orders & staff track them. Increasing traffic to the location of EM3C is also critical. The other key objective is to establish a community garden on campus. This objective will require collaboration with existing technical programs. An established community garden would provide EM3C with additional produce & provide opportunities for community programming.
At a minimum, we are looking for an individual with community college experience, preferably a recent community college graduate or a student close to completing an associate's/certificate program.
Preferable skills: public speaking, strong communication/writing background, social media and/or marketing experience, adaptability, creativity, & problem-solving abilities.
Bi-Weekly Stipend of $575.40, Plus Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend upon completion of service.
