Duties

The Community Education Specialist 2 (CES 2) serves as the primary technical assistant specialist responsible for assisting farmers and ranchers in California completing quantification methodologies and applications for submission to California's Climate Smart Agriculture incentive programs. Through their supervisor and network the incumbent interfaces closely with scientists conducting research at the University of California to understand Climate Smart Agriculture: soil health, compost management and irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer efficiency management practices. The CES 2 serves as a subject matter expert on proven Climate Smart Agriculture management practices highlighted in California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Office of Environmental Farming Innovations’ Climate Smart Agriculture incentive programs.

Qualifications

Minimum of Associate's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
Coursework in crop or livestock production.
Proficient in use of Windows-based computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Experience teaching and working with a diverse adult audience.
Skills to communicate and work in large groups, small groups and one-on-one, give presentations.
Ability to write reports, complete applications, and develop correspondence.
Strong working knowledge of agricultural practices. A basic understanding of and can communicate science basics related to carbon sequestration in soils, climate smart compost and manure management practices, water and nutrient balance in soil systems and healthy soils principles.
Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the development and delivery of training programs.

Salary

Min $17.82/hr. to Mid $25.48/hr.
