About the organization

The American Language Center of Tangier has been teaching English in Tangier for over 50 years. In addition to providing courses in English for children, adolescents and adults, we also organize and support cultural activities (plays, workshops, art exhibits, scholarly lectures, concerts, multi-disciplinary events) and community service programs and projects.
ALC Tangier is a member of the American Cultural Association, a private, non-profit educational and cultural service.

ALC Tangier uses a communicative, student-centered approach to teaching English where students are continuously engaged in skill development through spontaneous interaction with peers. Conversation allows elements of contingency and surprise, impulse and revelation to find expression naturally and meaningfully in real time. By creating clear and authentic contexts for language learning in the classroom, we prepare students for relevant real-life situations they will encounter outside the classroom.

Duties

The American Language Center (ALC) Tangier is looking for experienced full-time classroom teachers (21-24 contact hours per week) who are familiar with and supportive of communicative and dynamic student-centered language instruction and the use of ed-tech in the classroom. This entails managing a student-centered classes with regular, varied pair- and group-work activities, games, movement and creative in-class task-based projects as well as managing Google Classrooms for both in-class and asynchronous student use. Fun and effective conversational English instruction is our focus.

Qualifications

1) B.A. degree

2_ EFL Certification: CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, IH Certificate for Teaching English, TESOL Via Lingua, Peace Corps’ TEFL certification, SIT TESOL Certificate or equivalent min 120-hour, classroom-based TEFL certification that includes live observed practical teaching hours with real learners.

3) Candidates must document a minimum of two years’ overseas general EFL teaching experience (full-time), preferably with adolescents, young adolescents and children.

Experience in university level instruction, ESL, EAP, Business English, test-prep, tutorial (one-on-one or very small group) and short-term substitution is assigned less weight in assessing experience and overall suitability for this position.

Salary

10,000 - 13,000 Moroccan dirhams per month + benefits (health insurance, paid vacation, home leave)
