Duties:

This is an entry level position leading to the full Social Insurance Specialist (Claims Specialist) GS-11-#5E237 position. The employee in this entry-level position works in a training capacity toward the full performance level position. Management arranges structured training and development activities to provide experience and technical competence in the methods, procedures, principles, and techniques of the full performance level. The appropriate manager may noncompetitively promote the trainee to the next grade provided work at the higher level continues to exist, the employee has demonstrated the ability to perform it, and the trainee meets time-in-grade and other administrative requirements.

Supervisory Controls:

Assignments in this position are developmental in nature; the trainee works under the general direction of the designated supervisor, who sets overall objectives and deadlines. During this period of development, the supervisor or higher-level employee provides instruction in terms of expected results, as well as additional, specific directions for new, difficult, or special assignments including suggested procedures, sources of information, or reporting formats and techniques. The supervisor reviews work in terms of the results achieved.

Complexity:

At the entry level, work assignments are not as broad or inclusive as those of the next higher-level. Management selects assignments to enhance the trainee’s development of the skill

Qualifications

Ability to analyze data and make independent decisions. Great customer service and interviewing skills because field office positions deal with public face to face.

Salary

$35,000 to $50,000 to start
