The Social Security Administration is one of the largest independent agencies in government with over 60,000 employees. We work at more than 1,400 field offices and service centers throughout the country, as well as regional and headquarters locations.

The majority of positions at Social Security involve working directly with the public, with multiple positions located throughout the country. Our Public Contact Representatives receive extensive training and mentoring in Social Security programs and state laws. They also speak with beneficiaries about their rights under Social Security laws, gather facts and evidence to establish eligibility for benefits, determine benefit amounts to individuals, and use technology to access and update claims information.

Duties

Claims Specialists assist the public in person or by phone to establish entitlement to Social Security benefits. Claims specialists interview applicants for benefits, determine a claimant's initial eligibility for Social Security benefits, analyze evidence to make a determination of eligibility and obtain, clarify and verify data used to analyze claims and make benefit entitlement decisions.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen by birth or Naturalization, have excellent communication skills & ability to deal with the public, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a degree or related experience.

Salary

Varied, Between $37,219 to $46,103
