Greets all visitors and creates a favorable impression so visitors feel that VBA is interested in their welfare and will be responsive to their questions and needs. Occasionally, an applicant or caller may become upset, unruly, or threatening. In these cases, the incumbent must exercise good judgment and professional demeanor in attempting to calm the situation. Provide benefits and services to Veterans, their families and survivors in a responsive, timely, and compassionate manner in recognition of their service to the Nation.
Explains VA benefit programs and entitlement criteria to veterans and ther dependents. Assists with the completion of applications and forms. The incumbent is responsible for checking all forms and evidence submitted for completeness and accuracy and routing them to proper operating elements. If incomplete, assists visitor with completeness of the application or forms and advises visitor of additional information or documentation required. Must also provide general information relating to other federal, state, and municipal agencies. Establish/maintain a professional/thriving working and learning environment which values and recognizes the team who deliver these services.
Conduct interviews in person or by telephone with veterans, representatives, and advocates. Explains VA benefits and related programs, including disability and death compensation programs; pension programs; education; vocational rehabilitation and other related entitlements; home loan guaranty program; small or disadvantaged business utilization; VA health care; life insurance; general Social Security Administration benefit programs; federal and state laws relating to domestic relations; and federal, state, and local assistance programs. Refers persons to other Federal agencies and State and local agencies when potential eligibility for non-VA benefits is indicated. Must be friendly, articulate and possess the interpersonal skills to be able to cope with a variety or personalities to include angry, hostile and excitable visitors.
