Duties

The Child & Family Counselor is responsible for the development, coordination, guidance, and delivery of clinical services related to children’s counseling services. The Children’s Counselor provides individual, family, and group counseling services for children, youth, and adults.
Responsibilities:
Clinical
•Plans, implements, evaluates the counseling services for children, youth, and their families in coordination with the Clinical Supervisor
•Provides individual, group, and family counseling services, case management, and referrals to children, youth, and caregivers as determined by client, community, and agency need
•Collaborates with agency’s teen dating violence prevention program to coordinate counseling services for teens on or off-site as needed
•Maintains children’s counseling supplies and physical space of the children’s counseling area
•Provides outreach and education to the community, including identifying and developing partnerships with local organizations
•Provides individual economic counseling with adults, which includes enrollment, completing an assessment & collaborating with a survivor to establish, review, and complete goals on an economic stability plan.
•Facilitates trainings on the effects of domestic violence on children and child abuse mandated reporting at agency’s 40-hour domestic violence training
•Recruits, trains, & supervises childcare volunteers
•Serves as a resource & point of contact for clinical interns. See rest on our site

Qualifications

Education – Masters’ degree in social work or related field; 40 hour domestic violence training required upon hire.

Experience and Skills– Experience providing counseling services to children, youth, and their families required. Experience in planning and implementing programming for children preferred. Experience in the field of domestic violence preferred. PC literate with experience in word processing.

Licenses/Certification – Professional license (LSW/LCSW or LPC/LCPC) preferred.

Salary

Salary is in the low $40k range, commensurate with experience •Comprehensive benefits package (with some employee contributions) includes medical, dental, vision, insurance, and a pre-tax tr7ansit benefit •24 Paid Time Off days are accrued in the first yr

Work Environment:
•This position operates primarily in a professional office environment that is not fully accessible. There are two flights of stairs and no elevator
•This role routinely uses office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines
•This is a full time position. 2 evenings of work per week are required, Saturdays occasionally may be required
•Some travel to off-site locations in the Chicago metro area is required
•Workplace is a smoke-and drug-free environment
