The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) was founded in 2007 for the public benefit of all Iraq, and is an independent, nonprofit, coeducational, English-speaking liberal arts university. In 2011, AUIS moved to its new 400-acre marble-and-glass campus overlooking historic Sulaimani, a thriving economic center of more than a million residents.

The campus has 50 classrooms, high-tech computer labs, an expansive library, auditoriums, dining facilities, and sports facilities. Our 1,300 students are taught in English by faculty members from approximately 20 different countries. AUIS, with support from the European Union and Expertise France (EF), will create Iraq’s first accelerator program for enterprises throughout the country to more effectively and rapidly grow their businesses. The Accelerator will offer the complete spectrum of support for entrepreneurial development.

Duties

AUIS is looking for a talented Business Support Manager to oversee all business and training related support for the startup participants in the AUIS Accelerator program, which will begin in the Fall of 2020. The Business Support Manager will be the lead coach for the entrepreneurs and other training staff. Along with the Accelerator Director, the Manager will ensure operational efficiency of the initiative. This is an exciting new role at the University; the Manager will have the opportunity to create a new program at a premier English-language university in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) to support growth-stage entrepreneurs from across the country.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Lead the design of the Accelerator training program, including developing the Accelerator curriculum and full business support program;
Deliver ongoing trainings to startups in the Accelerator program;
Advise and support startups in growth and development during and after the Accelerator;
Provide support to other trainers and staff in supporting the entrepreneurs;
Support in M&E processes to track the progress and success of the entrepreneurs in the Accelerator;
Develop and establish and alumni network for all program graduates;
Other tasks as required by AEI

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Graduate degree in business or related field preferred; bachelor’s degree plus previous experience in entrepreneurship may substitute;
5+ years professional experience in startups, business, or technology;
At least 2 years professional experience as a business trainer, professor or coach;
Mastery of the following topics, particularly how they relate to startups: business strategy, operations, financial modeling, growth, and management;
Previous experience in coaching or mentoring individuals or small teams;
Ability to design and implement training programs and curriculum;
An understanding of the business and entrepreneurial ecosystem in Iraq or the Middle East preferred;
Fluent in English; knowledge of Arabic or Kurdish a plus

Excellent communicator, both orally and written, with a variety of stakeholders;
Team-oriented and willing to support colleagues and direct reports;
Ability to train and mentor entrepreneurs;
Process-oriented with good attention to detail;
Enthusiastic, results-oriented and possessing a growth mindset;
Experience working in multicultural teams.
