About the organization

Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies (BRACE) is a community-based disaster coalition of partners in Pensacola, FL focused on disaster preparedness, response and recovery for our community and throughout the state. Since the founding of BRACE in 2006 following Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis, BRACE have proven that partnership is the key to accomplish together what no individual or organization could alone. BRACE assisted thousands of survivors of hurricanes, floods and tornadoes through the often difficult path to recovery by restoring hope and homes. We have reached over 100,000 individuals with emergency preparedness, training and education that will provide benefit to our community for at least a generation. BRACE's collective impact on resilience of our community have been recognized more frequently by FEMA through the Individual & Community Preparedness Awards Program than any similar organization.

Duties

BRACE's VISTA Leader will be integral in expanding and building the capacity of the BRACE VISTA team through the coordination of the projects in which they serve. The Leader is instrumental in assisting the VISTA team in clarifying problems and creating solutions, as well as ensuring VISTAs are trained in proper reporting procedures. The Leader will assist the Supervisor with the research, recruitment, screening and interviewing prospective VISTAs for the Resilient FL project. Additionally the Leader will help develop the VISTA on-site orientation, training & evaluation, as well as identify various learning needs of the VISTA team so that appropriate professional development training can be offered.

Project development and coordination for the staff and VISTA team to participate in the 4 National Days of Service will occur throughout the year of service. VISTA Leader will be encouraged to suggest changes to the program based on challenges and successes VISTAs have experienced. In collaboration with staff members, the Leader will end their term of service by creating & implementing a written plan for project sustainability.

Qualifications

VISTA Leaders must have had a full year or AmeriCorps or Peace Corps experience to qualify. College degree is preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are needed.

Salary

$15,000 for living allowance plus VISTA benefits
