Duties

Part of the nationwide Healthy Families America initiative of Prevent Child Abuse America, Healthy Families of Northern Virginia Family Service offers comprehensive support and guidance, through home visitation, to new and expectants parents. The mission of Healthy Families is to promote healthy prenatal outcomes, enhance the development of very young children, and promote healthy family functioning. The Family Support Specialist (FSS) initiates and maintains regular contact with families, primarily in their homes; establishes trusting relationships with families and assists in strengthening parent-child relationships. This position will be working remotely while providing some essential services which may require occasional in-person work.

Qualifications

High School graduate or GED; college coursework preferred.
Infant Mental Health endorsement preferred.
Experience working with or providing services to children (aged 0-3 years) and families.
Fluency in Spanish and English required. Additional language skills always welcome.
Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, internet virtual meeting and learning platforms required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. Demonstrated ability to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.
Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs.
Must be comfortable with varying home conditions and being around pets/animals/other items in homes.
Must clear Motor Vehicle Record check, have a valid U.S. driver’s license and own/reliable transportation.
Within a 37.5 hour workweek, needs to have the flexibility to make evening (up to 8pm) and/or early morning home visits two (2) days per week in order to accommodate clients’ schedules.
Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability.
Successful completion of background checks required upon hire.
