AzFBN VISTA Leader AmeriCorps VISTA

Arizona Food Bank Network

About the organization

The Arizona Food Bank Network (AzFBN) is a coalition of 5 regional food banks and almost 1,000 food pantries and agencies, working to address hunger in Arizona. Together, our network feeds almost one million people each year in all 15 counties in Arizona. We amplify the good work of these food banks by raising awareness about hunger, coordinating large food donations between food banks, and providing resources and education.

In order to increase the impact and capacity of AzFBN’s VISTA program, the VISTA Leader will support three primary groups: 1) AzFBN’s Project Director to expand the VISTA program to include additional host sites, recruit VISTAs, develop new partnerships and resources, implement a marketing plan to increase the visibility of the VISTA program, and improve program management by standardizing program operations. 2) VISTA Members, by offering integrated support from onboarding all the way through off-boarding by developing trainings, mentoring VISTAs, aiding VISTAs in program design and implementation, and forming a stronger VISTA network to stimulate collaboration between projects. 3) Host sites, by offering formal trainings, developing resources, expanding their partnerships, and aiding them in the transition of their project upon the departure of a VISTA, to ensure they implement impactful projects, and adequately support their VISTAs.

. AzFBN has 12 different VISTA projects throughout the state with various host sites, and hopes to further expand their program to bring on new host sites and VISTA projects with the leadership of a VISTA Leader. In order to accomplish this, the Leader will need to increase the efficiency, efficacy, and scalability of AzFBN’s broader VISTA program. Additionally, the VISTA Leader will aid host site organizations and individual VISTA Members through a variety of different supports and interventions to ensure they have the resources, knowledge, skills and abilities required to be successful in their projects. The result of an effective VISTA Leader implementing this three pronged approach will be improved support systems for those struggling with hunger, resulting in a reduction in hunger in vulnerable populations throughout the state.
