Duties

The Associate Editor of Global Stories serves as a key team member in fostering a diverse, vibrant, and united Peace Corps community. They possess solid writing chops and editorial acumen; digital fluency and a proven ability to nurture online communities; and an understanding of and commitment to the mission and vision of National Peace Corps Association.

The associate editor is an active participant in informing strategic decisions and nurturing relationships to build NPCA’s visibility, outreach, impact, and resources, with a high priority on broadening the community. The position will support NPCA’s goals by sharing Peace Corps community stories, news, projects, and ways to engage both print and digital audiences in the events, values, and mission of the Peace Corps community. The position is responsible for collaborating on a range of communications and publications activities, including the tracking of performance metrics. Work focuses on supporting NPCA’s website and online communities, and producing WorldView magazine.

Qualifications

Five years of comprehensive, broad-based media and communications experience in an internationally focused publication, non-profit organization, alumni association, or similar environment

Returned Peace Corps Volunteer or other global experience strongly preferred

Awareness of complexity of cultural diversity and an ability to work across various regions of the world

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to represent NPCA in front of various audiences and across a variety of media platforms

Knowledge of/experience with successfully incorporating communication strategies into resource generation efforts and programmatic functions

Exceptional time management and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize accordingly and thrive in a fast-paced environment; attention to detail a must

Social media and digital communications: Strong understanding of media and online technologies and demonstrated success in advocacy/community engagement communications

Knowledge of international development, foreign affairs, and non-profit sector preferred

Proficiency with digital media strategies, website and blog maintenance

Desired working knowledge with a range of software and platforms, including: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, InCopy), HTML, basic video editing, Goog
