About the organization
AmeriCorps is a national service program that partners with non-profit agencies to meet the critical needs of communities. The American Red Cross hosts state-wide AmeriCorps programs in California that focus on educating communities on emergency readiness and assisting those who have been affected by disasters. We are looking for passionate individuals who want to make a significant impact on others and gain professional experience in a meaningful way.
The Volunteer and Youth Services team assists in meeting the needs of the territory by successfully recruiting, onboarding, training and rewarding volunteers.
AmeriCorps members will staff and deliver disaster education programs to youth and adults in order to expand their knowledge on how to stay safe during an emergency
Recruit volunteers by coordinating the advertisements for volunteer opportunities, conducting Red Cross recruitment events across the territory, championing volunteer intake and screening process while mentoring a volunteer lead for these programs
Support youth and young adult volunteers to engage in volunteerism within the organization. This may include:
Recruiting and supervising youth and young adult volunteer events
Supporting youth leadership teams plan and execute mission related activities (smoke alarm installations, community preparedness events, CPR/FA courses, etc.)
Recruit and manage summer internship program
Provide ongoing youth volunteer support and recognition to create a highly engaged youth volunteer workforce
Recruit, screen, and on-board new youth and young adult volunteers into a department volunteer position.
Provide ongoing volunteer recognition tips and tools to create a more satisfied volunteer workforce
Respond to local emergencies as an active member of the Disaster Action Team (DAT) to support the recovery of individuals impacted by disasters such as home fires and other local emergencies
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Must be able to serve approximately 40 hours per week, from 09/14/2020 to 7/23/2021
Minimum of 18 years old
Able to pass a criminal background check
Holds a High School Diploma or General GED
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
Possess a valid driver’s license
Applicants who currently reside outside of California should be prepared to relocate, if selected for the position
Ability to serve outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends
Comfortable with public speaking
Flexible, self-motivated and adaptable to shifting priorities
Leadership and problem-solving skills
Familiar with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
Bilingual language skills in Spanish, Korean, Mandarin/Cantonese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese are not required, but highly desired
