About the organization
Montgomery County, Maryland is a diverse community that draws people from all over the world to live and work near the nation's capital. While the cost of living is extremely high, RTMC clients have an average annual income of less than $20,000. As clients make difficult decisions about which necessities to prioritize their income on, home repairs often go unaddressed. By serving as a resource to make repairs for local low-income homeowners, RTMC ensures clients can continue to live in safe and healthy homes.
Through direct involvement with clients and community partners, the AmeriCorps member will have a significant impact on the local community. They will have opportunities to interact with local residents and community volunteers daily, with the goal of ensuring volunteer engagement and support to help our homeowners.
The AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator is integral in building and maintaining many community
partnerships at Rebuilding Together Montgomery County (RTMC). The AmeriCorps Volunteer
Coordinator will activate local community members to get involved and make an impact in their
community by volunteering with RTMC. The AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator will engage both skilled trades and unskilled volunteers to build our capacity through a number of opportunities, including hands-on repair work, warehouse management, client education in healthy housing or home maintenance, office roles, and to serve in special roles on rebuilding days (ex: safety captains, supplies/materials runners, photographers). The AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator will ensure volunteers receive a proper orientation to RTMC’s work and are placed with appropriate projects based on skill/experience. The AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator will oversee volunteer communication and planning for excellent volunteer experiences, as well as organize ways to show our appreciation to volunteers for their service to our clients.
Solid interpersonal skills and ability make connections and build relationships with volunteers
Ability to work with diverse clients, volunteers, and staff to create a friendly, helpful atmosphere
Ability to work equally well on independent projects as well as on collaborative, team projects
Positive and optimistic attitude, good problem-solving skills
Ability to compose professional written communications for a variety of audiences, including
social media (Facebook, Twitter, e-Newsletter)
Well-organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, flexible
Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work/volunteering experience
11 month AmeriCorps term: stipend of $15,000 and an Education Award of $6,095 at completion

Rebuilding Together Montgomery County's mission is Rebuilding Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives. For the past 30 years, RTMC has provided critical home repairs and accessibility modifications to keep neighbors in need safely in their homes. To date, RTMC has helped 2,600 low-income homeowners with the help of 50,000 community volunteers.
