The Hub believes every community has the tools to develop economic opportunities and jobs; optimal health conditions; attractive and inspiring community environments; bright futures for young people, and citizens who believe they deserve these things and are prepared to work together to get them.
Since 2009, The Hub, has worked in dozens of communities to coach community members through a process that helps them identify leaders and assets; develop plans and set goals; and connect with a wide network of resources to meet those goals. The Hub’s work in communities has contributed to revitalizing communities such as Buckhannon, Thomas, Shinnston, Grafton, Matewan and others. The Hub has been instrumental in helping to create initiatives that address community opportunities and challenges such as developing local food systems, enhancing community sustainability, securing funding for community facilities, restoring historic downtowns, and more.

Duties

WV Community Development Hub is looking for an Americorps VISTA to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader for our cohort! The VISTA Leader will aid in building sustainable processes to improve recruitment and retention of VISTA members in The Hub. This will include an assessment of current procedures and processes for report collection, developing a streamlined method for data collection and implementation. The Leader will assist the Program Manager in the recruitment of members. They will tend relationships with college and university career services offices, departments, and professors; communities where Hub subsites are recruiting, and other locations where potential members may be found. The Leader will also serve as a mentor for our members across WV. They will facilitate monthly check-ins with members and develop training based on the needs of the members for in-person and online delivery. Lastly, the Leader will coordinate service projects for members and other AmeriCorps projects as appropriate on National Days of Service.

Qualifications

AmeriCorps VISTA Leaders must have completed at least 1 term in AmeriCorps previously or served in Peace Corps (evacuated PC members eligible). A VISTA Leader should have community service experience, and at least some college. The ideal candidate will have a passion for and understanding of community development. Public speaking, facilitation, assessment, and supervisory experience are also a plus.
The ideal candidate must be comfortable working from home, but also be willing to relocate to WV. The candidate will ideally have access to reliable transportation when travel safely resumes, so as to conduct site visits.
