About the organization
The Oregon Health Authority AmeriCorps VISTA Partnership Project aims to alleviate, prevent and reduce poverty by engaging new public health professionals in a year of full-time service in major public health organizations to create or expand public health systems capacity. The project aims to reduce poverty in our communities by building sustainable public health programs and systems that ensure health equity, community resiliency and improved health outcomes.
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 50 years.
In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year.
We are recruiting for two VISTA Leaders who will be responsible for leading the June 2021 VISTA team consisting of approximately 9 VISTA team members and supporting the full team of approximately 30 members in partnership with the Spring and Fall VISTA Leaders. The Leaders serve as ambassadors, facilitators, educators, liaisons, mentors, recruiters, and resource generators for the team. Responsibilities include planning trainings and events for VISTA members, coordinating travel, resolving conflict, solving problems, managing social media content, public speaking, and engaging in professional development. VISTA members across the state serve to fight poverty, and the Leader position plays a critical role in assisting with these efforts. The VISTA Leader position is open to former VISTAs, AmeriCorps members, or returned Peace Corps volunteers who demonstrated exemplary skills and leadership in community service and completed at least 50% of their service term.
- Availability to serve complete service term (06/07/2021 – 06/06/2022); dates not flexible.
- Must be 18 year or older, legally able to work in the U.S., and pass a background check
- Must have a college degree
- Must be willing and able to commute consistently or relocate to Portland, OR
- Effective oral, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds
- Interest in public health and poverty alleviation
