AmeriCorps VISTA- Healthy Housing Coordinator
Catholic Charities of Oregon
About the organization
As an affordable housing developer/provider and social service agency with statewide reach, Catholic Charities of Oregon is uniquely positioned to reduce homelessness throughout the state through strategic housing development and coordinated social services delivery. Catholic Charities of Oregon has been selected as one of five cities nationally to participate in a health/housing initiative in which the Catholic Charities branch will partner with Catholic Charities USA, local healthcare providers (Providence Health System) and the Archdiocese. The goals of the initiative include reducing chronic homelessness, reducing hospital readmission, and connecting those housed with health/mental health care. The overall strategy of the initiative is to convert unused or vacant church properties for supportive housing projects within parish communities.
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will be supporting the Healthy Housing Initiative team by designing and implementing tools (such as an interactive map, engagement strategy plans, and communications templates) to support the launch of the five-year housing initiative. The AmeriCorps member will also provide project coordination support across the three strategic partners: Catholic Charities of Oregon (CCO), Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon (ADP), and Providence Health and Services (all together, Partnership). The Healthy Housing Coordinator will focus on logistics and systems support and development alongside community engagement and communication around housing and service aspects of the initiative.
