AmeriCorps VISTA- 2Gen Initiative Coordinator
Catholic Charities Chicago
About the organization
Catholic Charities is implementing a 2Gen approach throughout our programs that serve child, youth and families to interrupt the cycle of intergenerational poverty and help our clients achieve self-sufficiency. This 2Gen approach emphasizes serving adults and children simultaneously, and creating strong community-based partnerships to align systems that provide early childhood development, post-secondary and employment pathways, health and wellbeing, economic assets and social capital. The VISTA member will work closely with other members of the 2Gen team to create a solid infrastructure that aligns these systems within our own agency, and engage in outreach efforts to develop strong partnerships with other community-based organizations who can provide additional services to clients.
The VISTA member works collaboratively with staff to achieve the goals outlined in our strategic plan. They will be developing our fatherhood initiative, designing programs to serve parents of children ages 0-5, working with volunteers to provide additional programs for youth, and connecting families with resources related to immigration, legal services, mental health and counseling. They will engage in community outreach to help us build new partnerships and raise awareness of the center; recruit and train new volunteers/leaders who can help us continue doing this work; develop curriculums on financial literacy and other 2Gen topics; and assist with grant writing to launch new programs and ensure sustainability. Other activities may include organizing regional meetings for service providers; developing a community advisory committee; and assisting with advocacy efforts to ensure the key stakeholders recognize the importance of using a 2Gen approach.
