About the organization

The ImpACT Center at Wichita State University's Community Engagement Institute is the proud sponsor of two AmeriCorps programs: AmeriCorps State and AmeriCorps VISTA. These national service programs place volunteers at nonprofit organizations and public agencies across the United States. Members serve in various positions to address unmet community needs and alleviate poverty. AmeriCorps State member’s hours are primarily direct service, usually face-to-face service of direct benefit to the recipient; AmeriCorps VISTA member’s hours are mainly indirect service, working behind the scenes to build the capacity of organizations.

Duties

AmeriCorps sends people power and funding to communities across the country. Disaster response, opioid crisis, education – these are just a few of the causes where AmeriCorps members have stepped up to strengthen their community.AmeriCorps programs are open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Through our programs, we offer opportunities with different time commitments and requirements, meaning you can serve in whatever capacity works for your goals and lifestyle. Benefits include: a modest living allowance to cover basic expenses during your service term, the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that can be used to pay for a range of educational expenses like repaying qualified student loans or future tuition payments, loan deferment and interest forbearance, professional development, and an alumni network of like-minded leaders who are passionate about improving communities with access to additional special benefits and resources. AmeriCorps VISTA also allows members to earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving members an edge in the federal hiring process and relocation assistance.

Qualifications

be 17 years or older, 18 years or older for VISTA (no upper age limit)
be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien
